Former New Zealand players of both rugby codes have spoken in support of Wellington rugby captain Norm Hewitt's decision to play on in the NPC first-division final with a broken arm.
Yesterday, Associate ACC Minister Ruth Dyson claimed Hewitt was a poor role model for playing with the injury.
However, former All Black Richard Loe and former Kiwi rugby league captain Mark Graham say Hewitt did the right thing.
Loe says Hewitt was leading a team that was just about to win the NPC for the first time in 14 years, and there was no way he was going to hand the reins over to someone else.
Ruth Dyson is grandstanding by telling Hewitt what he should or should not have done, says Loe.
Mark Graham, who carried on playing while injured many times in his rugby league career, labelled Dyson's comments 'idiotic'.
He says Hewitt has made a great achievement, as it is the mark of a man to carry on playing while injured.
Graham says Hewitt is a well paid professional and is entitled to put himself on the line.
