The father of a 21-year-old au pair living with a Whanganui family rushed over from their home in Canada when he heard his daughter had been in a car crash.
Angelika Melisa Loukas died following the crash on Waitotara Valley Rd in the early hours of Sunday.
Loukas, who lived in Waitotara Valley with her host family, was in the vehicle when it lost control and careered about 100m down a steep hill.
She suffered critical injuries and was flown to Wellington Hospital about 90 minutes after the crash, reports Fairfax. She died from her injuries two days later.
A 25-year-old Whanganui man was also injured in the crash, which police are investigating.
