Harry Mark Matthews pleaded guilty to drink driving when he appeared in the Whanganui District Court on Tuesday.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Rachel Willemsen said at 7pm on Tuesday, September 4, Matthews was driving south on Victoria Ave in Whanganui when he turned on Taupo Quay and was pulled over by police.
He blew a breath alcohol level of 548mcg.
Defence lawyer Stephanie Burlace said Matthews accepted he had been drinking and co-operated with the police.
"He has some history but it's very historic," Ms Burlace said.
