A mistrial has been declared in the case of a Wanganui man accused of stabbing his partner in the chest.
Damien Shane Kuru's trial began on Tuesday when he pleaded not guilty to wounding with reckless disregard and breaching a protection order.
However the mistrial was declared yesterday afternoon for reasons Judge David Cameron has suppressed.
"The reality is that legal issues have arisen," he told the jury. "Those legal issues have got to the point where, in fairness to both the Crown and the defence, this trial cannot now continue.
"Accordingly, I now declare a mistrial and order that the defendant be retried on a future date yet to be fixed."
