A man who rummaged through an elderly person's car while they were at the public toilets at Virginia Lake has been sentenced to community work.
Mark Andrew Whitton was at Virginia Lake on February 27 when an elderly man parked his car and went to the public toilet without locking his vehicle.
Whitton got into the passenger seat and began searching for items, but did not find anything to take, and stopped when he saw a witness watching him, police prosecutor Sergeant Rachel Willemsen told Whanganui District Court last week.
Whitton pleaded guilty to unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle.
