A man whose wife had an affair with his female co-worker must pay a fine for kicking the co-worker in the chest.
Scott Alan Brider, 32, worked with the woman in youth development for the Air Force. They had been colleagues for about a year before the incident, police prosecutor Sergeant Stephen Butler said.
The complainant was at her Upper Hutt home with a flatmate and two friends including Brider's wife when he showed up "uninvited" and knocked on the front door, Mr Butler said.
"One of the victim's friends, who is married to the defendant, went outside and spoke to the defendant.
"The victim went to the front door to lock it to prevent the defendant access into her address. Before the victim got to the front door the defendant entered her house. He approached the victim and kicked her in the chest."
The complainant began falling backwards and Brider tackled her to the ground. That was when the friends intervened and told Brider to leave, which he did without further incident.
The woman was not injured.
Brider has not previously appeared before the court, Mr Butler said.
Defence lawyer Roger Crowley said the complainant began an "intimate relationship" with Brider's wife, and he had taken steps to distance himself from her.
"Ultimately the marriage fell over," Mr Crowley said.
Mr Crowley said it was "totally out of character" for his client.
"He simply went around to drop some items off to his ex partner."
Brider "temporarily lost his cool" at the victim.
He has since taken himself to anger management courses.
"I have told him he could make an application for discharge without conviction, but he doesn't want to."
Mr Crowley said Brider was taking the offending "very seriously" and was remorseful.
He pleaded guilty in Whanganui District Court on Tuesday to male assaults female.
Judge David Cameron fined him $300 and $130 court costs.
