A creative mix of hippies and geeks is set to hit the paddocks of a Rangitikei farm next week.
The 12th annual Kiwiburn runs from January 21 to 26 on Mark Grace's Cooks Rd farm near Hunterville. Crews of people are preparing for it.
The six-day event fosters "radical self-reliance and participation", media liaison Shelley Watson said. No one is paid to entertain the people who come - they have to entertain themselves and others.
About 1000 are expected this year, the second time it will be held in Rangitikei. Tickets cost $155 to $200, and are available online or at Cosmic shops in main centres.
The people chosen to build the effigy and temple that are burned get some finance to help them. There's also $8000 available for people who produce other art works. Many come as part of "camps" with particular interests.
