LIKE the sporting heroes who have served before him, Wanganui bowls star Sean Johnson is enjoying his role as ambassador for the 2015 Southern Trust New Zealand Masters Games.
"I was quite humbled when asked to be an ambassador," he said.
"I have been fortunate to represent my country with great support from the Wanganui community, and it is an honour to have this opportunity to give back to a community that has supported me."
Johnson is a former world lawn bowls silver and bronze medal winner who played 99 tests for New Zealand. He was Wanganui Sportsperson of the Year in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004 and won silver in the triples and a bronze medal in the fours at the 2004 world championships.
Locally, he has achieved 18 open titles wins and 23 Aramoho club championships. Last year his contribution to sport was recognised by induction into the Wanganui Sports Hall of Fame.
