A man who repeatedly breached a protection order, including following his ex-partner in his car, has been imprisoned.
Terrence Harold Jackson pleaded guilty to three breaches of the protection order in the Whanganui District Court on Tuesday.
Judge Dugald Matheson said things were "becoming unravelled" in April when Jackson split with his partner of three months.
"A relationship that was important to you ceased to be," Judge Matheson said.
"You were struggling. You were making repeated contacts with the victim and those contacts were causing her considerable stress.
"She was feeling helpless, really, and was concerned that you weren't in good shape."
Jackson contacted his ex-partner by text, followed her by car and went to her property, behaviour Judge Matheson said was "very serious".
"Protection orders are there to be observed."
He said Jackson was "abusing a position of trust".
He sentenced him to three months in prison with special release conditions to attend a domestic violence programme.
"I wish you well," he told Jackson.
