Mountain bikers from Wairarapa College were pushing their limits and testing their skills on the Rangitumau loop track last week.
For five weeks, the 22 Year 12 outdoor education students had been learning about maintaining their mountain bikes, honing their cornering, descending and ascending skills and enhancing their fitness.
Earlier in the term, they had cycled the Rimutaka Incline and that, combined with their Rangitumau effort, enabled them to complete a unit standard.
Outdoor education teacher Kath Wilkie said the terrain at Rangitumau provided a good test of the bikers' fitness levels and they had coped well.
Next, the students will head to Makara Peak mountain bike park to further advance their capabilities.
