MEMPHIS, Tennessee (AP) " Donald Young of the United States defeated eighth-seeded Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in straight sets 6-3, 7-6 (9) Monday afternoon in the opening round of the Memphis Open.
Young ousted Mannarino, the only seeded player in action Monday, in an hour and a half, using nine aces and winning 79 percent of his first service points.
The Memphis Open is the former U.S. Indoor that was renamed when the USTA took over the tournament last year.
In earlier matches, America's Ryan Harrison defeated Filip Krajinovic of Serbia 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 and Denis Kudla was a straight-set winner over fellow American Robby Ginepri 6-3, 6-4. Dustin Brown of Germany defeated Marinko Matosevic 6-4, 6-4, while Ivan Dodig of Croatia ousted Teymuraz Gabashvili of Russia 6-2, 6-2.
In the late match, Jared Donaldson defeated Stefan Kozlov 7-5, 6-0, after both Americans gained their spots in the tournament as wild-card entries.
