An Auckland man is still in a critical condition, as detectives try to piece together his last movements before he was beaten unconscious.
23-year-old Nicholas Clarkson, from the Auckland suburb of Point England, was attacked in the early hours of Friday morning in downtown Auckland.
Police spent most of yesterday checking video footage from cameras in the area, and sifting through 100 tonnes of rubbish, in an effort to find clues to the man's attack.
Mr Clarkson has horrific head injuries and is in a coma.
Police are calling for public help in determining Mr Clarkson's movements in the 90 minutes between when his friends left him at a 2.45am, and when he was found unconscious on the street at 4.30am.
