In partnership with Lydia Ko, New Zealand Golf is pleased to announce the two recipients of the 2018 Lydia Ko Scholarship with Amelia Garvey and Rose Zheng travelling to Scottsdale in Phoenix, Arizona next week for the experience of a lifetime.
The two will spend time with the former world number one at PXGs home base where Bob Parsons has kindly opened the doors to allow them to train and play at one of the most exclusive golfing establishments in the world.
The motivation behind the scholarship, which will take place from 25-27 of January, was so Ko could give back to the game by inspiring the next generation of females to strive for the top to see what it takes to get there and help grow the number of New Zealanders competing with her on the LPGA Tour.
Ko is excited at the opportunity to host Garvey and Zheng and proud to be able to provide support back to females in golf to show recognition of the support she received along her phenomenal journey.
"I received support from so many people as I grew up and Im proud to be able to give something back," said Ko.
"I am really pleased to be able to work with New Zealand Golf and use the scholarship with the intention to help the next wave of young golfers rise and compete on the LPGA Tour."
Through the Lydia Ko Scholarship, both New Zealand Golf and Ko hope to attract more interest from the emerging talent within the womens game.
Last year the recipients of the scholarship were Alanna Campbell and Momoka Kobori who have both taken up scholarships to Iowa State University and Pepperdine University respectively.
After returning home for the newest LPGA Tour event, the McKayson New Zealand Womens Open, the Ko-effect was in full swing. Many young fans came to Windross Farm Golf Club to see our best ever in their own backyard as she continues to give back to the game in more ways than one by bringing the worlds biggest tour to New Zealand.
