NRL star Jarryd Hayne reportedly flees Australia after rape claims

NRL superstar Jarryd Hayne has reportedly fled Australia hours after being accused of raping a woman in the US in 2015.

Australian media spotted the Eels player arriving in Tel Aviv after "fleeing" Sydney late on Wednesday night (NZT).

According to Channel 9, he boarded a plane in secret overnight.

Hayne only recently returned from a trip to Jerusalem where he was baptised in the Jordan River but left Australia quickly following the rape claims.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Hayne returned to Sydney for his daughter's birthday.

He has vehemently denied he raped the woman in the United States in 2015 when he was playing gridiron with the San Francisco 49ers but admits he "hooked up" with her, according to court documents, AAP reported.

The woman, who is referred to as Ms V, has filed a civil complaint in California which alleges Hayne took her back to his San Jose home after a 49ers game and raped her when she was drunk.

Documents lodged in a County of Santa Clara court state the woman had previously met some of Hayne's friends when working at a restaurant and a group went out drinking after the December 20 game.

The documents say Hayne later took the woman, home in an Uber and she passed out in the car "due to her extreme level of intoxication".

The woman said in the lawsuit that she recalled very little about that night but woke up the next morning in Hayne's bed in a pool of blood, naked and draped in a sheet.

She said she had never had sexual intercourse before that night but was fearful of going to police because of Hayne's prominence.

The woman has requested a jury trial.
