Daniel Hillier has made two late and dramatic birdies to now lead the 2017 Toyota Junior World Cup by two shots entering the fourth and final round at the Chukyo Golf Club Ishino Course in Japan tomorrow.
After signing for the tournaments lowest round of seven-under par yesterday, Hillier managed to back it up this afternoon by shooting five-under the card and boost his young New Zealand side into third place in the overall standings.
With both himself and the team in contention tomorrow, it creates a mouth-watering final round and Hillier sounded more than ready to take on the challenge.
"Obviously I am very happy with how I have played over the past two days on a course that isnt easy," said Hillier.
"The boys are working well as a unit and are always checking on each others progress which is exciting and we cant wait to give it everything tomorrow."
With his strong finish he will be feeling on top of the world and hopefully he can replicate things tomorrow.
"After a nice approach to seven feet on 17, I then made a 18-foot putt to close out the round which was a pretty awesome feeling," smiled Hillier.
High Performance Manager, Gregg Thorpe who is travelling with the side is enjoying watching Hilliers run first hand.
"Its been great to watch and he's looking very calm, composed and in control of his game. He's striking the ball beautifully and has finished strongly both days which he is very proud of," said Thorpe.
Otagos Inia Logan also built on his already solid week with a three-under par round to finish the day in a tie for 12th place. Logan has been a vital part of the teams success this week and after continuing his consistency throughout the first three days.
Debutant Tom Parker is proving his worth after threatening the top of the leaderboard yesterday and recording a two-under round this afternoon to be just one shot behind Logan.
The great thing about this format where they take the three best scores from each day is that it offers Henry Spring a chance to bounce back from what has been a tough week thus far for the Bay of Plenty amateur. He could help make history tomorrow and provide one big round for his side.
Thailand lead in the team standings, just three shots clear of New Zealand which is a very small lead in what is bound to be one of the more exciting finishes in recent years where this team has a chance of creating history.
