5) Cruden misses flight after drinking session
You'd think Cruden missing a conversion or tackle would be a bigger story but the fact the All Blacks first five-eighth missed a flight to Argentina and subsequently the next two tests, was much talked about in September. Cruden said he made "a poor decision regarding the limits of his alcohol intake" while out for an informal dinner in Auckland.

6) Ian Thorpe in intensive care
In April Australia's golden boy Thorpe was in a Sydney hospital after contracting two potentially deadly infections. The 31-year-old five-time Olympic gold medallist contracted the bugs after undergoing a series of surgeries on his shoulder at a hospital near his home in the Swiss town of Ronco sopra Ascona. He made a full recovery and the next we heard from him
he revealed he was gay

7) All Blacks lose in Johannesburg thriller
The most read All Blacks report from 2014? Their only defeat. Gregor Paul wrote: A brilliant game. A bad result. But the All Blacks can't feel too down about suffering their first loss in who knows how many games. The Boks took their win. They fought for everything. They were superb everywhere and maybe they were a bit lucky with the final penalty - but no one could begrudge them their win.
