A car has caught fire near Rotorua Airport, causing serious traffic delays.
A police communications spokeswoman said a station wagon caught fire around 4pm on Te Ngae Rd, about 500m on the Rotorua side of the airport.
She said all the occupants of the car were out of the vehicle. She said the car was believed to have overheated and the fire was not being treated as suspicious.
She said there were reports of flames 3m high.
Diversions have been put in place down Robinson Ave.
A fire communications spokeswoman said the car was well alight when fire crews arrived. The fire had been extinguished and fire crews had now left the scene, she said.
She said police were called to assist with traffic.
A Rotorua Daily Post reporter said traffic was at a standstill along Te Ngae Rd, past Robinson Ave. She said she had earlier seen thick black smoke coming from the vicinity of the airport.
