A teacher has been taken to Hawke's Bay hospital this morning, following a fire in a classroom at Richmond School in the Napier suburb of Marenui.
Emergency services were alerted at 9.40am, and two fire appliances from Napier attended the fire.
Napier station officer Peter Draper said a teacher who tried to extinguish the blaze was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation.
A St John ambulance spokesperson said the person was in a moderate condition when transported.
He said he could not say much more at the moment as the fire was believed to be suspicious and investigators were currently at the site.
