A Hamilton woman says she plans to fight "ridiculous" charges that allege she hindered and assaulted a parking warden.
Krystal Wanikau is furious that the charges claim she not only abused a parking warden in Bryce St on May 8, but that she also pushed her, sending her falling on to a car.
The 33-year-old today pleaded not guilty to charges of forcibly hindering the parking warden and assaulting her when she appeared in the Hamilton District Court.
When approached by the Herald outside for comment about the charges, Wanikau claims the charges are lies.
Court documents state she parked in a loading zone outside her bank and was about to walk inside when she was approached by the warden, stating that she couldn't park there.
The documents then claim Wanikau unleashed a string of abuse before moving her car to a legitimate car park.
After going in the bank, Wanikau came out to find the parking warden talking to occupants of another car that had parked in the same car park.
It was then the pair allegedly became involved in another verbal altercation before Wanikau is accused of pushing the warden with both hands, causing her to fall on to the bonnet of a car.
Wanikau said she had no idea the park was a clearway area for buses from 4pm and didn't mind moving her car.
"It's really ridiculous ... it's the way she ran over to me, she gave me a fright. I turned around in shock and went 'oh my God, who the f*** are you?'".
She denied assaulting her.
"I parked outside Co-operative Bank on Bryce St, I had just finished work in Cambridge. I had been going [to the bank] every week and this particular day, she ran over to me, 'hey you're not allowed to park there' and yelled at me'."
"I said 'excuse me, how dare you come running across the road yelling at me'."
She accepted she told her to "f*** off and leave me alone".
Wanikau is due back in court in November.
