Waikato police have a hoard of stolen bikes they want to give back to their rightful owners.

They're also now urging bicycle owners to record the serial numbers to save officers going round and round trying to find their true home.

Police yesterday posted pictures of 18 bikes that have been stolen in Hamilton over the past month after a spate of thefts from houses, outside malls and even from schools.

Are any of these yours? Hamilton police would like to return them to their owners.

Due to the fact serial numbers weren't recorded police are hoping to get a steer on finding their owners through social media and publicity.

If anybody recognises any of the machines, they're advised to visit the Hamilton Central Police Station on Anzac Pde between 8am and 4pm, Monday to Friday, together with proof of ownership and the file number, which is on the photo.
