Women critically injured after being hit by truck at Turua, near Thames

A woman in her 40s is fighting for her life after she was hit by a truck at Turua near Thames.

Emergency services were called to the scene, on Hauraki Rd about 1km south of Turua, at 11.37am.

Auckland Westpac rescue helicopter airlifted the women to Waikato Hospital after she was struck on a section of open road.

She suffered head and trauma injuries and was in a critical condition when she was taken to hospital, an Auckland Westpac rescue helicopter spokeswoman said.

The Serious Crash Unit was investigating, a police spokeswoman said.
