Wanted Nelson man writes to police on Facebook

A man who is wanted by Nelson police has contacted them on Facebook to let them know he is safe.

Police had grave concerns for the safety of 26-year-old Motueka man Cyrus James Harrington and posted on Facebook hoping for information on his whereabouts.

Harrington replied "Im safe everyone. thanks to the nelson police for all ya time and effort Great job thank you."

Police were pleased to hear from Harrington, but requested he visit the police station as soon as possible.

Harrington left his home in Brooklyn, near Motueka, on Tuesday morning. He is 180 cm tall and has a thin build.

He may be in possession of a knife and should not be approached.

Anyone with information on Harrington's whereabouts is asked to call police immediately on 111, or can provide anonymous information via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111, or via the online reporting page.
