Police will close a North Island highway at midday to investigate the death of teenager whose body was found on the side of the road yesterday morning.

The New Zealand Transport Agency said a section of State Highway 3 between Te Awamutu and Otorohanga would be closed at noon due to the police inquiry.

A detour was in place but motorists were urged to delay travel in the area and expect delays.

The road was expected to reopen at 2pm.
