Two people were assaulted and taken to hospital with head injuries following a violent home invasion in Invercargill late last night.

Invercargill Police are investigating the incident which took place near the intersection of Centre and Conyers Sts at approximately 10.45pm yesterday.

The two male victims were in their lounge when two men, dressed in dark clothing with their faces covered, entered their home carrying weapons.

They were assaulted and received head injuries which required hospital treatment, but have since been released and are assisting police with the investigation.

Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the Centre and Conyers St area around 10.45pm last night and saw anything suspicious, and have asked people to call (03) 211 0400.

Police would also like to hear from anyone who may know the identities of the two men who entered the address.
