Christchurch firefighters took an hour to bring a fire under control that broke out on the second floor of a high rise building this morning.
South Command Fire Shift Commander Tim Reynoldes said an upper floor on a four-storey building on Moorhouse Ave, Addington, was badly damaged when a fire broke out at 6.10am today.
At the height of the blaze the fire trucks from four different stations - including a turntable truck - attended the scene.
Reynoldes said firefighters managed to contain the damage to one floor.
"Fire crews quicky brought the fire under control on the second floor," he said.
The building was now being inspected for any further signs of fire.
Fire safety officers would them start looking at the cause, he said.
