Former Justice Minister Judith Collins is on two parliamentary select committees as an ordinary MP, as is former Building and Construction Minister Maurice Williamson.

That leaves them with less responsibility than 12 of National's 14 new MPs who either have positions of deputy chairman of a select committee, or chairman in the case of first-term MP Nuk Korako, the new chairman of the Maori Affairs Committee.

The other new MP given a vote of confidence is National's Chris Bishop, who is the deputy chairman of the Finance and Expenditure Committee, chaired by Hamilton East MP David Bennett.

Ms Collins is on the Education and Science Committee and the Transport and Industrial Relations Committee.

Mr Williamson is on the Education and Science Committee and the Commerce Committee.

Former Labour leader David Cunliffe will chair the Regulations Review Committee, a role which traditionally goes to an Opposition MP, and Labour MP Ruth Dyson will continue to chair the Government Administration Committee.

Ms Collins resigned during the election campaign after the emergence of an email which appeared to link her to a campaign to undermine former Serious Fraud Office chief executive Adam Feeley, who answered to her. A former High Court judge is conducting an investigation.

Mr Williamson resigned after it emerged he had contacted the police about a domestic violence case involving a property developer.

The new committee chairs are as follows: Commerce, Melissa Lee; Education and Science, Jian Yang; Finance and Expenditure, David Bennett; Foreign Affairs and Defence, Mark Mitchell; Government Administration, Ruth Dyson; Health, Simon O'Connor; Justice and Electoral, Jacqui Dean; Law and Order, Mike Sabin; Local Government and Environment, Scott Simpson; Maori Affairs, Nuk Korako; Primary Production, Ian McKelvie; Regulation Review, David Cunliffe; Social Service, Alfred Ngaro; and Transport and Industrial Relations, Jonathan Young.
