A hearing date has been set for a 77-year-old Mamaku man facing a firearms charge.
Max Winders has denied leaving a loaded firearm in circumstances as to endanger the life of others, namely under a bed with a bullet in its chamber. The offence was alleged to have been committed between March 28 and April 4 this year.
Winders appeared today in the Rotorua District Court where Judge Jocelyn Munro set a defended hearing date of September 13.
His lawyer, Murray McKechnie, told the judge he anticipated the hearing would last up to a day.
The main issue would be whether the firearm located by police was able to be accessed by members of the public, he said. Mr McKechnie added the police presence on Winders' property on the day the firearm was found was unrelated to the current charge.
