Arrests made after brawl in Hastings

Seven gang members have been arrested following an all-in brawl involving a meat cleaver, hammer and axe in Hastings today.

At about 1.30pm police responded to multiple calls from concerned residents when the fight, involving up to 10 people, began on the intersection of Eastbourne St and Willow Park Rd.

The brawl was still in progress when police arrived.

Seven men aged between 15 and 24 were arrested and have been charged with unlawful assembly and possession of offensive weapons.

A number of weapons including hammers, meat cleavers, and an axe were used.

It is understood four of the arrested were members or associates of Black Power, while the remaining three were members or associates of the Mongrel Mob.

Senior Sergeant Luke Shadbolt said there were no significant injuries.
