Police have arrested four people in a "dramatic" pursuit following a failed kidnapping attempt at a rural home north of Auckland.
Two men and two women arrived at a home on Smith Rd in Matakana in a black BMW at about 10:05am yesterday, police said.
It was alleged two of the offenders assaulted a man at the home before trying to carry out a kidnapping.
A firearm was allegedly involved in the incident.
Police said the victim managed to escape his assailants.
Officers from Rodney and the North Shore, along with an air support helicopter and a dog unit, were involved in tracking the offenders in a "dramatic" pursuit lasting several hours.
The four alleged offenders were arrested at a house in Mahurangi, police said.
Two men, aged 37 and 22, were set to appear in North Shore District Court today charged with attempted kidnapping and commission of a crime with a firearm.
The two women, aged 21 and 19 were set to appear on similar charges, police said.
