A woman is in intensive care after being stabbed in Lower Hutt this afternoon.

The 35-year-old woman was taken to Wellington Hospital in serious condition after the incident in the suburb of Naenae, police said.

Emergency services were called to a Cambridge Terrace address around 2.10pm, said Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Cooper.

Mr Cooper said the police were still working on the case tonight.

"The victim is in a serious condition in ICU. A scene examination will be carried out at the address tomorrow and further enquiries are underway this evening."
