A van containing hazardous materials exploded into flames on Auckland's southern motorway slowing traffic for several hours this afternoon.
The southbound van caught fire just after the Otara interchange about 3.45pm.
Firefighters put out the blaze before a city council cleaning truck sucked up paint materials and sulphuric acid spillage.
One of the three southbound motorway lanes was closed for three hours.
No-one was injured in the incident.
