Naval explosives experts have blown up what they believe to have been a home-made bomb at a South Auckland police station.
Manurewa police were handed the package by a landlord who drove around 2 km with it after it was left in his rental property at Clendon.
It was discovered by a cleaner who was working at the house because the tenants had moved out.
Senior Sergeant Heather Wells says police evacuated the station and placed the package in the yard to be blown up.
She says it looked suspicious as it had wires hanging out.
Police will not know whether it was a bomb until fragments are examined by the ESR.
