A Sunday matinee performance by the Waikato Rivertones will introduce an updated song sheet.
The Rivertones' music ranges from standards, big ballads and classic well-known songs to modern music from the Black Eyed Peas, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Queen and Billy Joel, all sung in a cappella (unaccompanied) harmony.
The Rivertones comprise more than 80 women, from teens to over 70, who come from throughout the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, King Country, Auckland and Taupo to sing. The group competed in Denver, Colorado in November, representing New Zealand in the world Sweet Adelines harmony championships - their fourth international contest.
In 2007 they won the world champion mid-sized four part harmony chorus title at the international Harmony Classic contest in San Antonio, Texas - the first time the title had left the US. That win has led to television appearances and sellout concerts.
New co-directors Kate Sinclair and Lynn Jamieson are both long-time chorus members. Kate began playing piano and flute as a child, and by 13 she was playing in orchestras and concert bands, touring in Germany and Denmark and playing London's Royal Albert Hall. During her GP training Kate found Sweet Adelines, and since her first Rivertones' rehearsal in March 2000 she's been hooked.
