Beverley May Stick, 71, died with her husband of 51 years, Earl, as the pair travelled by bus into central Christchurch for Earl's cancer treatment.
The bus was hit by collapsing buildings when the earthquake struck.
The pair were described as "incredibly independent" and had travelled together around the world.
Christchurch-born Beverley was tech-savvy and known for making tasty shortbread.
