Ports of Auckland has blamed a worker dispute for a $12million loss in the year to June.

Container volumes fell by 10 per cent, partly because of industrial action when wharfies fought plans to contract out their work.

Last year the company posted a profit of just over $23 million.

Chief Executive Tony Gibson said it has been a difficult year, but a strong result from the non-container divisions offset the decline in the container business.
