Junior A Boys met Te Puke High School in B Division quarter-finals.
It was a physical contest with two players from each team fouling out and the score see-sawed throughout the game, with BC gaining a good lead on several occasions, only to see Te Puke pull it back. Despite many unsuccessful trips to the free-throw line, the score was tied at full-time after Harshveer Singh put on a scoring blitz in the last quarter.
Overtime was needed to settle the result. Caleb Richards drew a foul and finally sank a free-throw, to put BC up by one. Te Puke levelled the score again with a matching free throw and then Jonathan McLeay took a nice assist from Caleb to lay up the game-winning bucket. The final score was 47-45 to BC.
The finals for the Junior Boys C Section saw our BC Boys B play Mount Maunganui. It was a good battle for 3rd and 4th placings and saw BC take the bronze medal. Ngarori Knap played well, intercepting passes and Ryan Bos' defence freed up the ball for Gerry Hua to score many of the team's hoops.
Harrison Jones intercepted many passes. Spencer Wright and Andrew Olsen completed the team effort - a great last game of the season. Bethlehem College Junior B girls basketball team faced off against season rivals Matamata. Bethlehem were focused from the start and this seemed to unsettle the opponents, causing them to concede a number of fouls and turnovers.
The momentum of the game swung frequently with one team and then the other going on scoring runs. The halftime score was 19-20 to Matamata who went on to win reasonably comfortably.
Netball: Our 7a, b, c and 8a, b, c teams were runners-up in their grades playing under finals pressure. Games were lost by only a few goals in most cases so results could have gone either way on the day. Our Year 9a team won their division convincingly (36-14), so a huge congratulations to the team and coaches Heather and Makayla Richards. The team members are Rebecca Bridgman, Stella Cashmore, Izobel Finlayson, Madeline Glover, Sahana Jones, Rachael Masters, Jessica Riddle, Victoria Stanbridge, Sarah Stratton, Jessica Wilson, Charlotte Wyatt.
Swimming: William Spear and Rachel Mead attended the NZ Short Course Championships last week with the Swim Rotorua and Otumoetai teams respectively.
