Despite the physical and mental ardour from the return flight home from South Africa, Rennie's men held firm to defeat a spirited and fired up Highlanders side by 19-7 at Waikato Stadium on Friday night.
The Chiefs struggled to get possession and played the game mostly in their own half but thanks to another superior goalkicking performance from Gareth Anscombe and the outstanding defensive effort, the Chiefs stay top of the New Zealand conference.
Chiefs 19 (T Nanai-Williams tries; Anscombe con, 4 pens)
