Three police dogs from Tauranga will have their service commemorated on a new Wall of Remembrance at the New Zealand Police Dog Training Centre today.
In honour of the 24 police dogs who have been killed on duty since 1972, Deputy Commissioner Viv Rickard and former police dog handler and Associate Justice Minister Mark Mitchell will be unveiling the wall in Wellington.
Individual plaques will display each dog's name, the date they were killed and their handler's name.
Among those will be Tauranga dogs Ozi, Spike and Enzo as well as Whakatane's Valour.
Ten of the dog handlers featuring on the wall will attend the event, seven of which have since retired from the New Zealand Police.
