Of the concert Yu said: "The Brahms No. 2 in Bb major, is often cited as one of the more challenging piano concertos of the classical repertoire.
"I will perform three (Mvt. 1, 3 and 4) of the four movements of this relatively lengthy work. Challenging feats include awkward hand positions, large interval leaps, fast passages requiring high dexterity, deep emotional commitment and of course, extended chordal passages demanding great power and effort from the pianist. The orchestral and piano parts both hold key melodies. This results in the piano feeling more like part of the orchestra rather than a solo instrument. - I am most certainly looking forward to seeing you all there."
The orchestra will open the programme with special guest conductor Matthew Howes, now resident in Auckland with the overture from Mozart's La clemenza di Tito.
Howes says he is delighted to see the musical spirit alive and well in Wanganui through the ongoing commitment of local players to preserve its orchestra, which in any district is full of challenges.
"I am more than delighted to have the opportunity to be involved once again," he said.
Door sales are available on the day for $10 admission for all age groups, which includes a programme.
