Making Worlds is the work of seven invited artists who have either visited, worked or graduated from the Quay School of the Arts, at Wanganui Polytechnic and later Whanganui UCOL.
Exhibiting artist and curator Lorraine Webb said the exhibition was the subject of a conference paper to be presented at ANU Canberra in August titled The World and World-making in Contemporary Art; Connectivities and Differences by her sister Professor Jen Webb.
Making Worlds celebrates the artists' views of their worlds through their work. Artists are: Chaco Kato, Japan/Australia; Lily Aitui Laita, Auckland, artist and educator of Samoan, Maori ( Ngati Raukawa) and Pakeha origin; Kate Lepper, completing MFA at the Slade School of Fine Art, University College, London; Faith McManus, (Ngapuhi, Ngati Takoto) printmaker from the Far North; Helen Manning, graduate from 2008 and now living in Hamilton; and Kura Te Waru Rewiri, ( Ngati Kahu, Ngatirangi, Ngati Rehia, Ngati Raukawa ki Kauwhata) internationally recognised artist now living in Whangarei and Lorraine Webb.
Ms Webb said the artists were asked to think about the relationship between the world and their work, and their views of their own place at this intersection.
Making Worlds, Edith Gallery, Whanganui UCOL, 16 Rutland St, until July 15, weekdays 9am-4pm.
