Woman stabs ex-partner's tyres

A woman who stabbed her ex-partner's tyres justified her crime by saying she had paid for the tyres in the first place.

Caitlin McGlinchey appeared in the Whanganui District Court on Tuesday, where she pleaded guilty to wilful damage.

On December 28 McGlinchey went to the victim's property in Marton.

The victim saw McGlinchey opening the front gates and going to crouch by the car.

The victim went outside, shouting at McGlinchey, and she ran back to her own car and drove away.

When the victim went to the car, he found the rear passenger tyre had been stabbed.

"The defendant said: 'They were my tyres,'" police prosecutor Sergeant David Grey said.

Defence lawyer Harete Hipango said McGlinchey had paid for the tyres herself.

Judge David Cameron convicted McGlinchey and ordered her to come up for sentence if called upon within six months.
