A Whanganui teen is paying the price for agreeing to an "easy dollars" mission, where he burgled Parnell Cafe located on the corner of Liverpool St and Victoria Ave.

Eighteen-year-old Jamaal Atwir pleaded guilty to burglary and possession of Cannabis when he appeared in Whanganui District Court on Tuesday.

On May 4, 2017 Mr Atwir recieved a call from an associate asking if he "was keen on a mission that night for easy dollars."

Police Prosecutor senior sergeant, Stephen Butler, said at around 9.50pm that night Mr Atwir was a passenger in a motor vechicle with a male and a female associate .

"They drove to Liverpool Street, Whanganui parking near Parnell Cafe which was closed and secured for the night.

"The defendant and the male associate climbed over a locked wire mesh gate at the rear of Parnell Cafe whilst the thrid associate kept watch," Mr Butler said.

The police summary of facts said they stole meat, milk, cream, bread and croissants.

Mr Butler said they were caught by a neighbour and ran back to their vechilce, dropping some of the stolen items along the way.

"The Police spotted them and Mr Atwir was later arrested at his home address."

A box of cannabis, consisting of leaf and stalk weighing 113 grams, was found in Mr Atwir's room.

Mr Bulter said Mr Atwir admitted the cannabis was for personal use.

Mr Atwir's lawyer, Harete Hipango, said he entered a guilty plea as early as possible and requested community work and home detention as an appropiate punishment.

Judge Garry Barkle convicted Mr Atwir and ordered him to reappear for a sentencing on August 7, 2017.

Mr Atwir will continue on bail until his next court date.
