Whanganui nursing students just perfect

Whanganui students have achieved a 100 per cent pass rate in state nursing exams.

And overall UCOL nursing students in Whanganui, Palmerston North and Wairarapa set to graduate in March achieved a near-perfect pass rate in their Nursing Council State Final Examinations.

The examinations were held in November and results were released last week. They are assessed on a pass/fail basis, determining competence and safety to practice, and leading to registration as a registered nurse or enrolled nurse.

UCOL Executive Dean Health and Sciences, Penny O'Leary, says of the 87 UCOL Bachelor of Nursing students who sat State Finals in November, 84 achieved a positive result.

"UCOL's overall pass rate was 96.55 per cent, a fantastic result. Particularly outstanding is the regional results from our Wairarapa and Whanganui campuses where 100 per cent of students passed their exam."

"We are very pleased with this success rate and proud of our students' achievements. I wish them all well as they graduate and begin their new careers."

A total of 1397 candidates sat State Finals nationwide in November.

UCOL offers a range of programmes in the field of nursing, including the Bachelor of Nursing, the New Zealand Diploma in Enrolled Nursing, and the Short Course in Competency Assessment for Registered Nurses.

Enrolments are open now for the Bachelor of Nursing in Palmerston North, Whanganui and Wairarapa starting February 2017. The three year degree programme includes up to 160 hours of clinical placements in the first year.
