Two of Whanganui's finest young musicians will give a concert at the Prince Edward Auditorium this week before both leave town to further their studies.
Cellist Elena Morgan and pianist Liam Wooding will perform Voice of the Cello - a triptych of classic cello music.
The programme for the concertis designed around the idea of a triptych, or three panels of programme, each beginning with a well-known Bach prelude from his Suites for Solo Cello.
The concert will open with the famous G Major Prelude followed by movements of Elgar's Cello Concerto , the second set will begin with D Minor Prelude followed by Bruch's Kol Nidrei (or Jewish Prayer) and Rachmaninov's Vocalise.
The final set or panel will begin with the C Major Prelude leading into movements from Grieg's Sonata for Cello and Piano.
The recital is in support of Chamber Music Wanganui and the 2017 subscription series will be launched at the concert.
Elena Morgan has recently completed a Bachelor of Music at the NZ School of Music, Victoria University and this year she will be an honours student at Waikato University studying with cello master James Tennant.
Liam Wooding is leaving for Melbourne where he will be studying at the National Academy of Music.
