Forget about mountain bikes and racing bikes, retro two-wheelers are setting the latest trend at the Wanganui information centre from today.

Schwinn vintage cruisers, including a tandem bike, will be available for hire with Riverland Bike Hire opening up shop at the i-Site.

Michael Wilson, owner of the Riverland Family Park, said the bikes had been chosen because they complement the paddle steamer, tram and other heritage aspects of Wanganui.

Queen's Birthday weekend was an appropriate time to start up the business as the bikes were "fit for a queen".

"These bikes offer a comfortable, easy and enjoyable ride along Whanganui river banks - they even have a coffee cup holder for those coffee lovers," he said.

The cost of hiring out one of these bikes is $30 for three hours.
