A participant in the Light Up Your Home competition has had some lights stolen and others broken at their Parkdale Drive property.
Vernon Bernard said solar lights from the driveway were removed and a candy cane with a string of lights attached was dragged off the property and was laterfound broken on the road outside.
"We have only been living here since March so this is our first display in Parkdale Drive and it puts you off a bit when things like this happen," said Mr Vernon. "We have been participating in Light Up Your Home for about 13 years and someone cut the plug and took a light-up Father Christmas from our place in Collingwood St a few years ago so I guess two incidents in that time isn't so bad."
Mr Vernon said he would like to warn other people with displays at their homes to be on the lookout for people causing damage. Sarah Reed had her display vandalised last year but it did not put her off entering again and scooping the People's Choice Award for brightening up Matipo St.
