Nine unsecured firearms found in a Marton carpark on the first day of the duck shooting season have prompted police to issue a warning to hunters.
Constable Luke Shannon, of Marton Police, said a firearm was found leaning against a vehicle in a hotel carpark on Saturday while the owner
celebrated opening day inside the bar.
"When police were made aware of this a further eight firearms were found inside unsecured vehicles in the same carpark," Shannon said.
The firearms were seized and the owners could have their firearms licences revoked.
"This is not an isolated incident and duck shooters and hunters alike need to be reminded that firearms need to be properly secured and not left unsupervised in vehicles.
