Four milestones were celebrated last Thursday at the War Memorial Hall Pioneer Room.
Healthcare NZ held a function to present certificates and badges to Level 2 and Level 3 graduates, and to acknowledge the support workers who have been with the company for 10 and 15 years respectively.
Healthcare NZ provides community-based
support in health and disability areas, enabling people to stay in their own homes. The afternoon's event was presented by Tania Henare, area manager of HCNZ central region, assisted by Melanie Aramakutu-Davies.
Those receiving the Level 2 qualification, the National Certificate in Health, Disability and Aged Support (Foundation Skills) were: Diane Annabell, Petrina Brewer, Jocelyn Bright, Heather Condon, Maria Lewis and Linda Mills. Absent were Angela Teal, Sue Bristol, Janice Coleman and Sacha Eberlein.
The Level 3 qualification, the National Certificate in Health, Disability and Aged Support (Core Competencies) went to Heather Condon and Chenara Clare.
"We have more than 35 people who have been with Healthcare NZ in Wanganui for more than 10 years," said Tania. "If you add Taihape and Marton into that it brings it up to between 55 and 60. It demonstrates the commitment from each and every one of you in supporting the people you work with every day.
"You are the heart and soul of the community and if it wasn't for you, many of us - and I say 'us' because of the range of people you support, from the young to the elderly - our family, whanau and friends would struggle tremendously. For some people you are the difference between living and existing. For some, you are the only visitor they receive on a weekly basis. You help elderly couples stay together ... we can't underestimate the appreciation they have for you."
Long-service certificates were presented to Judy Lockie (14 years), Judy Cleeve (15), Donna Ward (13), Christine Williams (12), Helen Foster (12), Ngaire James (11), Petrina Brewer (11), Fiona Van Elswijk (11), Christine Anderson (11), Simon Pearce (11), Della Hawker (10), Jocelyn Bright (19), Pam Luty (19), Diane Annabell (19), Maureen Hardaker (18), Susulu Davis (17), Lesley Holly (17), Linda Limpus (17), Margaret Trail (17), Dawn Rodgers (17), June Wills (17), Janet Vine (15) and Barbara Dinnington (18).
Those serving 15 years or more also received a badge.
