Tenant leaves her mark

A tenant has done a runner owing two weeks' rent, three weeks' notice to vacate and leaving behind rubbish and personal clothing.

Warren Burgess, who owns the Pitt St property, said his tenant had not been there for more than a week.

He was told by neighbours that the police were regular callers to the property, up to three times a week.

"We had a good run for six years," but this tenant had spoiled that run, Mr Burgess said.

The repairs and cleaning of the property and removal of rubbish would cost up to $1000.

Full rubbish bags were dumped in a space at the back door and bags of clothing were left strewn across the floor in two rooms. Other rubbish was scattered throughout.

The Chronicle called the tenant, who said her son had been airlifted to Wellington for emergency treatment and she intended to clean out the property.
