Fine and sunny is the weather outlook for the rest of week for Wanganui but MetService is unsure how things will pan out come the weekend.

Forecasters say a deep low from the tropics is bearing down on the North Island and come Friday is expected to lie north or northeast of the country.

It will push a strong and moist easterly flow onto northern North Island areas with a moderate risk of severe easterly gales and heavy rain is shown for Northland.

MetService said the future path of this tropical low next weekend is uncertain but could bring severe weather to many parts of New Zealand.
